The Old Couple

When I was a boy, I heard a story about an older married couple. One day, as they were driving down the road, the wife looked across the seat at her husband. With a look of sadness she asked, “Do you remember how we were when we were young?” The husband smiled and said he did. The wife closed her eyes and leaned her head against the passenger window. Smiling, she told him how much she’d liked it when he drove with one hand on the wheel and the other arm wrapped around her shoulders. They sat in silence, each smiling at the memory. Finally the wife asked, “Why did you stop?” The husband looked at her across the seat and said, “I’m still right here where I’ve always been. Why did you move?”
